Six month countdown

May 29th, 2008

Yup, the wedding is six months from today.

My married friends all said the engagement goes by so quickly and I honestly didn’t believe them at first. Once Alex and I set our date, we thought November was so far away. Boy was I wrong!

I’m trying not to let the wedding consume my life but rather stay involved in social activities such as co-ed softball and training for a triathlon with friends. However, I must admit, planning a wedding is very time consuming and it has cut into my triathlon training.

In regards to planning a wedding, I think my cousin Tina said it the best…”the devil is in the details”. :o)

I think what I am looking forward to the most is the reunion with friends and extended family. It’s been exciting to hear how so many people are making plans to attend our wedding or rearranging their Thanksgiving plans to stay/come into town.

I just want to say thanks!

First bridal shower

May 28th, 2008

This past weekend was my first bridal shower with Alex’s Weber side of the family. His Aunt Wendy (Godmother) and Aunt Barb hosted the garden themed shower, and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect party. I can’t thank the family enough for all their time planning and generous gifts.

I hate to pick favorites, but I would say the most thoughtful and creative gift was a cookbook created by all ten Weber aunts. Each aunt submitted a few family recipes to pass down to the next generation of cooks, including recipes from Grandma Rita. Alex’s cousins (Lauren, Kelly, Jessica and Maria) all received this same book at their bridal showers, so I sort of knew it was coming. However, this gift symbolizes that I have been welcomed (hopefully) into the Weber family…and of course…I cried upon receiving.
Many thanks to everyone!

Productive Day

May 22nd, 2008

Gerber Daisy CakeToday I used my lunch break to meet with Lutz Flower Shop and then my dinner was well spent at Piece of Cake Pastry Shop on Glenway Avenue (referral from Brittany). I still have a few more places to shop and compare but would like to check these two off the list soon.

I know most people think cake is cake and a rose is a rose, but that’s not all I’m looking from a vendor. Personality and customer service is also key, as I am trusting my wedding day “theme” with complete strangers! :o)

For example, my dress, bridesmaids dress, tuxes, rings, hall, church….are all pretty standard and I am pretty confident on how they will look on 11/29/08 (heck, I should know by 10/1/08 if all goes well). However…I’m not really in control of the flowers, decorations and the cake design come the morning of the big day. I’m not really a bride-zilla, just a worry wort! I need to feel comfortable that “everything will be taken care of” and all I have to do is show up at the reception. (That’s why I have nine bridesmaids to shield me from any drama!)

So, referrals are key here so please leave a message below with any other vendors I should consider. Many thanks!

We survived Pre-Cana

May 21st, 2008

Pre-Cana is a course or consultation Catholic couples must undergo before they can be married in a Catholic church. The name is derived from John 2:1-12, the wedding feast at Cana in Galilee. During our marriage prep seminar, we conducted personality tests and attended family planning, managing conflict and family finance seminars. Not surprisingly, they all tend to go hand in hand! We even ran into a few co-workers and old college friends so that was exciting to talk to others going through the same process.

Overall, it was a worth while experience. Some of the sessions did help us understand a little better why the other partner may see things from a different perspective (due to personality types, birth order, family backgrounds, expectations, etc.). We just did the one day seminar out at Raymond Walter’s college (Blue Ash area) versus the weekend retreat. If you went to the weekend retreat, I’d like to learn more about your experiences and how they may have differed.

Red accent ideas

May 8th, 2008

Our wedding colors are mostly black and white (bridesmaid dresses are black) but I’m trying to incorporate some fun accents of red. Here are some ideas that I really like. If you see something else that I might like, feel free to send it my way!

Meet our photographer

You might not meet or notice Bryn Weller on our wedding day, but hopefully her work will leave an impression. I just love how she seems to capture “the moment”. Thanks to Sarah, Kevin, and Katie for the referral!
